Bamboo and You

Phyllostachys vivax ‘Huangwenzhu’

The Phyllostachys vivax is a more average species of bamboo. It can grow anywhere between 35 feet an 70 feet, usually having a diameter around 5 inches. The Chinese name ‘Huang Wen Zhu’ is another term used to name this species. It means Yellow Grove Bamboo. The yellow and green tint in the bamboo culms are what gave the bamboo its original Chinese name. The groves of this bamboo can spread like wildfire. This means, typically, that this species are not used for home decor.

Instead, this bamboo tends to grow in the wild and stays there. The Huang Wen Zhu can still manage to grow in temperatures as low as -10 degrees Fahrenheit. That being said, it is more suitable for Northern environments. The bamboo does not flourish in direct sunlight and needs damper places to grow. Despite the specific living conditions for this bamboo, it is simply exquisite to come across in any place.
